There is never any sales pressure – I am an adviser, not a salesperson.  You often see “professional Wills” offered at totally unrealistic prices.  My fees are fair and open, and a phone chat or chat in my office is without obligation – I just hope you will like the way you are treated and use me to implement the advice – should any changes be needed.

About me and why all of my experience can help:

 

The early years of my career were spent in the Entertainments Department of Eastbourne Borough Council rather a long time ago!

I eventually left to become a financial adviser, which led to me telling people they should make Wills, which usually didn’t happen.

So I started drafting Wills, then realised that I was not expert enough, so I joined the Society of Will Writers on the 19th March 2001 and fairly swiftly became a full time professional Will Writer.

For well over a decade I was the Regional Chairman of the Society in Sussex, facilitating an average of 11 training sessions a year with guests ranging from top-notch solicitors to tax consultants and probate practioners.  Along the way I spent time as a non-solicitor partner in a law firm, ran an insurance brokerage, and was the sober part of a ground breaking estate agency, Bunny Warren.

Bit for the past many years I have concentrated on Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, selling off my large firm Allied Professional Will Writers, so I can

concentrate on helping clients direct rather than managing staff and administration.

I was recently awarded the highest honour the Society of Will Writers offers: the Companionship, which currently has only 4 members out of the 1700 the Society has. This is a picture of me at the conference with the Managing Director Anthony Belcher (the tall one!) presenting the award:

• Appointments are normally in my office at 5 Malcolm Gardens Polegate BN26 6PN.
• Please make it very clear if it needs to be elsewhere.
• Video and phone appointments are fine.
• My standard office hours are 9-8 Monday to Friday – weekends by appointment – if calling, I may be visiting or with clients, so please leave a message and I will call you back.
• Initial chats are free and with no obligation  (for up to 15 minutes).
• Before I can give any formal advice, like any professional, I need two forms of identification, adequate background information and signed terms of business. Please review these documents and, most especially, CHECK the FULL names and CORRECT addresses and dates of birth of anyone likely to be involved. Current fees are here.

Typical appointment length:

• Initial chat – up to 15 minutes.
• Review – nothing too complex – up 30 minutes.
• Taking instructions for a Single Will – 1 hour, Pair of similar Wills + 15 minutes
• Taking instructions for Lasting Powers of Attorney – as Wills.
• Taking instructions for Wills plus Lasting Powers of Attorney – single 1 hour 20 minutes, for couple + 20 minutes.
• Trusts or IHT Planning – after the free initial chat, there is a fee of £60 for the initial fact-finding meeting that typically takes an hour. Further fees are payable if you proceed.

Beneficiaries or potential attorneys should NOT remain in the meeting.  If they do, any documents resulting are potentially liable to be overturned by the Courts at vast expense – and no one wants that. They can introduce the client and even give a little background, then leave the meeting to maintain fully confidential discussions between the client and me without the spectre of dispute due to alleged undue influence being raised by a disgruntled potential beneficiary, however unjustified. If this makes things difficult, perhaps a friend with nothing to gain could bring the client along.  Chat to me first if necessary.
